Several of our members kicked off the new year with a fabulous polework session with Jon Bard. Lots and lots of poles in walk trot & canter, PLUS they stayed warm & dry in the indoor arena at Milton!
We have LOADS going on in the first 3 months of the year. Something for everyone. Have you checked out the 'whats on' page? What an awe inspiring day for our Cambridge Riding Club Show Jumpers at the Area 7 Winter Show Jumping Qualifier, which were kindly hosted by Wittering Academy Riding Club yesterday, at Wittering Grange near Peterborough.
We fielded five senior teams and one individual, and what an amazing job they did. The course was well built by Peter Lawrence, but it certainly took a lot of casualties throughout the day, with countless refusals and several falls, however, luckily for us, Cambridge shone through. Our 70cm team, consisting of: Stacey Sheldrick, Sam Manning, Jo Braybrooke and Rachel Dyke, took team 2nd, with Stacey taking 1st place individually. Subject to BRC confirmation, the team have qualified for the National Championships Our 80cm riders were definitely the highlight of the day. We had three teams in this class, and not only did we have an emphatic win, (with the only team to produce four double clears all day), but we also took second and third in the teams, and incredibly we took 1st to 8th place individually, with a win for Anna Braybrook, Fionn Braybrook 2nd, Stacey Sheldrick 3rd, Sarah Walpole 4th, Kathrine Ganczakowski 5th, Rachel Dyke 6th, Sam Manning 7th and Stacey Sheldrick 8th. Our winning 80 team consisted of: Anna Braybrook, Sarah Walpole, Katherine Ganczakowski and Rachel Dyke, Our 2nd place 80 team consisted of: Fionn Braybrooke, Stacey Sheldrick, Rebecca Everitt and Rachel Dyke Our 3rd placed 80 team consisted of: Sam Manning, Stacey Sheldrick, Jo Braybrook and Rebecca Everitt We had one senior team in the 90cm, and once again Anna Braybrooke produced another speedy double clear, to finish 2nd individually, and help her team mates, Lisa Laurie, Rebecca Everitt and Sally Ann de la Sayette, finish in Team 2nd. Subject to BRC confirmation, they have qualified for the National Championships. Our individual 100cm rider, Lisa Laurie, had a few unlucky penalties and finished just outside the placings Thank you all for being such great team mates and making it such a lovely day I would like to say a huge ‘Thank You' to Madelaine Dyke for being our volunteer collecting ring steward for most of the day. Without your help, our teams might not have been permitted to compete. On behalf of Cambridge Riding Club I would like to thank the organiser, Helen McIntosh, for all her hard work in running this qualifier, and for arranging for the sun to shine on us all day ! What a phenomenal day for our Cambridge Riding Club junior members today at the British Riding Clubs, NAF Show Jumping & Dressage Championships.
An emphatic win in the Junior 80cm Show Jumping Championships, with our team, which consisted of: Millie Morris-Lowe, Hannah Wood, Aline Halban-Taylor and Lydia Murphy, being the only team to finish on a zero score. Millie also took the Individual Title. Hannah finished individual 6th and Aline was 9th. Over in the dressage arena, our junior dressage team, consisting of: Hannah Woods, William Norman, Olivia Scot and Aline Halban-Taylor, also produced some very impressive results. They took Team 3rd, and all finished in the top ten placings, with Hannah taking 3rd individually, William 4th, Olivia 7th and Aline 10th Our Junior 70cm Show Jumping Team, consisting of: Flossie Harrison, Aline Halban-Taylor, Freya Logan and Hannah Woods all did very well and finished just out of the placings in 11th place. Huge thanks to our wonderful Junior Team Manager, Kerry Norman, for all her hard work and support, and to all the parents for their team support this weekend What a fantastic start to the British Riding Clubs NAF National Championships at Lincoln for our Senior Cambridge Riding Club members today.
Our 70cm Show Jumping team, consisting of Stacey Sheldrick, Kerry Simson, Ella Crook and Charlotte Freeman, jumped two cracking rounds to put us in equal first at the end of the second round. This resulted in a competitive team jump off, with us being pipped into the Reserve Champion spot by Solihull Riding Club, who managed to pull out of the bag another three clear rounds. However, Stacey Sheldrick had proven herself unbeatable after the second round of the competition, and she took the Individual title, thus making her third successive title win at Lincoln in the last three years. Our 80cm show jumping team, consisting of Kerry Simson, Jo Braybrooke, Katherine Ganczakowski and Kate Lonnen, had mixed fortunes, with a few uncharacteristic refusals, some knock downs, a forgotton course, and a very tired horse. Unfortunately due to the recent weather, the ground was definitely on the hard side, and this made the going very tricky. Our riders took the very wise decision not to jump the second round, and save their horses for another day. Over in the dressage arenas, our club was again victorious. Michelle Seward won the Senior Novice 30 Championship, and took Individual 4th place in the Novice 24, Charlotte Freeman, followed up her amazing show jumping result, by taking Individual 10th in the Senior Prelim 13. Our Prelim Dressage Team, consisting of Sally-Ann De La Sayette, Charlotte Freeman, Charlotte Mitchell and Heather Mussett were on this occasion unplaced Well done to all of our Senior members today. We had some great results for our riding club. ***NEW*** Summer Show Jumping Training With Anthony Clark At Flying Cat Livery, Croydon SG8 0EG Cambridge and District Riding Club are very excited to host Show Jumping training sessions with top 4* international event rider and trainer, Anthony Clark. Groups of 3 - £25 per hour FORTHCOMING DATES: Sat 27th July – sessions at 1pm, 2pm & 3pm Thurs 15th August – sessions at 5pm, 6pm & 7pm On Sunday, 23rd June, Cambridge Riding Club, hosted the Area 7 Show Jumping Qualifier at a new venue for our Area, Brent Pelham Park, by kind permission of Major Barclay Farms. Our hosts for the weekend, Mitch and Rachel Robinson, had done a fantastic job in the preparation of the ground in the week leading up to the show. This meant that the going was excellent for this time of the year, and the courses, which were built for us by Colin Ellison, all rode very well.
I am still apologising for the fact that the catering company completely let us down on the day. Despite several messages saying they were still going to attend, they never arrived. Due to the excessive heat on the day, the lack of food and fluids were a real concern, and for this I am very sorry. Cambridge Riding Club had entered a total of ten teams (junior and senior), into this event, and we also had a few individual representatives. Our members did us very proud on the day, and we had some very impressive results. Subject to confirmation from BRC Head Office, we will have several junior and senior members representing Cambridge Riding Club at the National Championships on 31st August/1st September. On behalf of our club, I would like to thank all the Area 7 clubs that attended the show. I would like to say a very big ‘Thank You' to all the members, family and friends, who helped us to load jumps/transport jumps/course build/steward/support our members. Your help is massively appreciated. I would also like to thank our course builder, Colin Ellison, for providing us with some good, challenging courses. Our judges, Clare Williamson and Bethany Callus, our Official Steward (Helen McIntosh), our collecting ring steward Madelaine Dyke, who stood out in blazing sun for eleven and a half hours, and a special thanks to our Area 7 club volunteers for covering the pole picking duties. Congratulations to all those riders who have qualified for the National Championships Sharron Massive Congratulations to our Junior Members, who conquered at the Arena Eventing Championships today! You've done the Club very proud
70cm Individual win for Suri Miyaem Team 4th Suri Miyaem Millie Morris-Lowe Freya Logan William Norman 80cm Individual 4th Suri Miyaem We hosted the Area 7 Combined Challenge Qualifier at Ely Eventing Centre today. The ground was perfect! The XC tracks were super and everyone seemed to be enjoying their steeds
Subject to Verification we should have some invitations to the Championships! Senior 80 Team WIN for Stacey Sheldrick Rachel Dyke SallyAnn de la Sayette Anna Braybrooke Senior 80 Individual WIN for Stacey Sheldrick 3rd Rachel Dyke 6th Anna Braybrooke Senior 70 Individual 2nd Stacey Sheldrick 5th Rachel Dyke Senior 90 Individual 2nd Alice Norman The BRC NAF National Horse Trials Championships ran at Swalcliffe from 6th - 8th August 2023. Further to winning the Area 7 qualifier, we sent our 70cm team and an 90cm individual up to Swalcliffe to contest the championships!
Sadly Rachel Dyke & Stacey Shedrick could not make it, so Karen Chamberain & SallyAnn De La Sayette joined Kate Lonnen & Jo Braybrooke to make up the 70cm team along with Polly Taylor on her home-bred White Tiger AKA Chip in the 90cm class. Friday saw the 70 team strut their stuff, and WOW they only went and WON the team event, with Jo Braybrooke and SallyAnn De Ly Sayette coming 3rd, with Karen coming 4th and Kate coming 7th. Such an achievement to be the BEST team in the country! Karen said about the event 'A combined age of 200+ years, everything aches but boy did we have fun' We want to send massive congratulations to Jo, Kate, Karen and SallyAnn who have proved that Cambridge & District Riding Club have the top BRC 70cm eventers in the country!! The weather Gods were not kind to Polly & Chip, when it rained and rained and rained some more on Friday night & Saturday. The 90cm is run as a 3 day event, so Dressage Friday, XC day Saturday (including steeplechase & road & tracks) and SJ on Sunday. They manged a super dressage score of 33.5, just a unfortunate run-out on the XC in quite literally appalling conditions, and poor Chip just couldn't jump out of the incredibly holding, muddy ground in the SJ. But what an experience for 6 YO Chip! Who did just amazingly. We are already looking forward to what 2024 brings the club, and we are hoping to hold onto the title of 70cm team champions!! |
