The BRC NAF National Horse Trials Championships ran at Swalcliffe from 6th - 8th August 2023. Further to winning the Area 7 qualifier, we sent our 70cm team and an 90cm individual up to Swalcliffe to contest the championships!
Sadly Rachel Dyke & Stacey Shedrick could not make it, so Karen Chamberain & SallyAnn De La Sayette joined Kate Lonnen & Jo Braybrooke to make up the 70cm team along with Polly Taylor on her home-bred White Tiger AKA Chip in the 90cm class. Friday saw the 70 team strut their stuff, and WOW they only went and WON the team event, with Jo Braybrooke and SallyAnn De Ly Sayette coming 3rd, with Karen coming 4th and Kate coming 7th. Such an achievement to be the BEST team in the country! Karen said about the event 'A combined age of 200+ years, everything aches but boy did we have fun' We want to send massive congratulations to Jo, Kate, Karen and SallyAnn who have proved that Cambridge & District Riding Club have the top BRC 70cm eventers in the country!! The weather Gods were not kind to Polly & Chip, when it rained and rained and rained some more on Friday night & Saturday. The 90cm is run as a 3 day event, so Dressage Friday, XC day Saturday (including steeplechase & road & tracks) and SJ on Sunday. They manged a super dressage score of 33.5, just a unfortunate run-out on the XC in quite literally appalling conditions, and poor Chip just couldn't jump out of the incredibly holding, muddy ground in the SJ. But what an experience for 6 YO Chip! Who did just amazingly. We are already looking forward to what 2024 brings the club, and we are hoping to hold onto the title of 70cm team champions!!

**NEW FOR 2023 UNAFFILIATED SHOW JUMPING at Ashwell Show**
By Kind invitation of the Ashwell Show Committee, Cambridge Riding Club are holding unaffiliated show jumping and clear round jumping at the Ashwell Show on Bank Holiday Monday, 28th August. This famous event has been running for over 100yrs and has something for everyone of all ages. This year for the first time, there will be a Shetland Pony Grand National running in the main ring, as well as a heavy horse display and many other attractions, including a fun dog show. We will have classes from cross poles upwards, and there will be rosettes from 1st to 6th place, and prizes for 1st and 2nd placed competitors. We will also be running a Rescue Relay Pairs class, with a fabulous £50 cash prize to the winning pair. See more about the show here : https://ashwellshow.co.uk/ Enter the classes here : enter CDRC were literally ‘on fire’ today at the Area 7 Show Jumping Qualifier at Milton Keynes. Not only did we endure the hottest day of the year so far, but our members produced some really great rounds and jump off times to take team second in the senior 70 class. Our team consisted of Kate Lonnen, Jo Braybrooke, Rachel Dyke and Stacey Sheldrick.
Our two senior 80 teams pulled everything out of the bag to take a very impressive team first on a zero score and team second in the 80 cm qualifier, and our members took the top six spots in the competition, with five triple clear rounds and one 4 faults. Our winning Cambridge Queens Team, consisting of Lisa Laurie, Sandra Morgan, Rachel Dyke and Stacey Sheldrick, have (subject to BRC confirmation), qualified for the British Riding Clubs, National Championships at Lincoln in September. Hot on their heels, were our Cambridge Kings Team, which consisted of: Stacey Sheldrick, Kate Lonnen, Jo Braybrook and SallyAnn de la Sayette. Our individual placings were: Stacey Sheldrick 1st and 6th, Kate Lonnen 2nd, Rachel Dyke 3rd, Sandra Morgan 4th, and Lisa Laurie 5th. We had mixed fortunes in the Senior 90 Qualifer, when two of our members suffered ‘technical eliminations’ after jumping their first rounds. The team members decided that with all things considered, we would retire and save the horses for another day. I would like to say a massive ‘thank you’ to Madelaine Dyke (and Isla), and to Sandra Morgan, who were our club volunteers for the day. Overall, it was a really fun day and we had some very good results.' Well done ladies, you did us proud x NEW for CDRC
